1) What is a gulet?
Gulets are strongly influenced by traditional Mediterranean sailing vessels, adapted to modern use. In the vast range of offer that exists you can find GULETS that have really incredible SAILING possibilities and on the other hand GULETS, that offer extreme luxury, with Jacuzzis on board and in cabins, plasma TVs in every cabin and saloon and complete VIP treatment when MOTORING. Gulets are really synonym for CRUISING IN STYLE.
2) Why are gulet type ships so interesting?
Gulet type ships offer comfort that sailing boats and motor yachts can not offer in that price range. You can afford diverse destinations every time on cruise and rent the gulet when you are not on board. Gulets are built and designed to offer comfort. They all have cabins with own showers and toilets, spacious saloon, kitchen, and huge amount of space on deck. In front of the boat there is space for sunbathing while at the back you have enough space to eat and rest in the shade made by bimini top.
3) How big are this ships and for how many persons are they meant?
Gulets can accommodate from 4 and up to 24 persons and have from 2 and up to 12 cabins meant for clients and also extra cabins for crew. Most ships range from 15 meters in length and up to 26 meters, while in last 10 years you can find more and more gulets, that are longer then 30 meters. One of the last projects was 50 meters gulet with 6 cabins offering ultimate luxury.
4) Why would I want to buy this kind of ship?
No matter how big and luxury these ships can be compared to prices of sailing and motor yachts, they are very affordable. Also the investment can be fully returned in 3 to 5 years, by charter management program, which is a lot faster then in other branches. Also ships are relatively new, and if you are looking for business opportunities, you can very fast build your own fleet of ships and become one of big fleet owners. It has happened several times, that buyers started with 1 ship, and after 5, or 6 years, they are now proud owners of 5 or more gulets.

5) How much do these ships cost?
Costs for gulets really have huge range. You can get 24 meters gulet with 6 cabins, which is older than 5 years for less then 200.000 EUR. Most popular used gulets to buy currently are now in the price range from 250.000 EUR and up to 800.000 EUR. These gulets range from 24 meters and up to 35 meters.
For the most demanding buyers, best gulets cost from 1.200.000 EUR and up to 3.500.000 EUR.
6. What is the quality of these boats?
Most of the gulets are made from wood. Wood gives gulets unique and special look, but on the other hand it needs some repairs every season. The wood materials that are most common used are Teak, Irocco, Mahogany, Pine and Oak. In last years more and more gulets are made also from steel. 7. Why didn’t I hear for these ships before?
Gulets home country, where they are made and produced is Turkey. In last 50 years, this country evolved extremely in gulet business. Starting from average size 10 m, in last 25 years gullets have grown to the size between 24 and 35m. In only 50 years, more than 3.000 new gulets were produced, one more luxury then the other, while number of boatyards is also growing every year. No other country is possible to produce wooden vessels with such competitive pricing. Turkey has skilled labor, inexpensive but still quality materials and labor.
But still, until now gulets were 95% produced only for Turkish market. Only last few years new markets evolved in Croatia and Greece, while the most interesting countries like TenerifeIslands, Caribbean, South France, Maldives, Italy, Egypt, and Thailand are still unexplored markets for this unique type of services. Also Turkish people did not put a lot of money to marketing outside Turkey.
8) Can I buy these ships and rent the weeks I do not use for myself?
Gulets are 100% produced only to pleasure guests on cruises. As it is almost impossible for average employed person to stay on a gulet for several months, we advise you to plan the weeks you are attempting to use the gulet for yourself, while for the rest of the weeks you can use our charter management program. This way you can cover complete cost of your crew and maintenance while on the other hand, you can also get complete investment back in 3 to 5 years and buy yourself another gulet in that time.
9) Is it safe to buy in Turkey?
Different stories come from Turkey, regarding buying gulets. Most of the people are extremely satisfied with hospitality of the people and not complicated procedures, but there are always exceptions. There is a lot of things you have to watch out in Turkey however. A lot of Brokers are trying to get the most out of buyers, and gibe themselves commission that are higher than 100.000 EUR for 200.000 EUR worth a gulet. Some buyers actually bought gulet for 600.000 EUR that was being sold by the owner for only 300.000 EUR. You also must have a lot of knowledge when you bargain for last price.
There is also issue of choosing the right boatyard for repairs, honest surveyors, get all the papers you need for export. In all this you also have to deal with hard language and other brokers that see what you are searching for gulets. They will always try to convince you every other person is a cheater and that you must take the gulet with them.

Defining your needs
If you are thinking to become a proud owner of gulet type ship, the most important thing is to define your needs.
We take our time to discuss with you your needs and your wishes, so that we can define the one it really suits you. Finding the right gulet is then much easier. That is why we pay special attention to this part.
What is for somebody perfect gulet, it can be a disaster for somebody else, even if the gulet is in the same price range. It is very important we know you are searching for a gulet only for private use, or only for charter. It is also important if you are interested in charter management program, or you will have a gulet in charter and will manage it by yourself. Some gulets are cheaper, but need more maintenance in the future. This can be problematic for some people. That is why we have to discuss in depth, so we can provide you with best solutions. Choosing the right gulet
After you define your needs you can begin your search. You can do it in privacy of your home. You have complete base of gulets presented on our website above, and you can filter these ships regarding your wishes.
You can search for your dream gulet regarding the price range, categorization, gulet length, year build or by the number of cabins. If you do not feel comfortable searching these gulets by yourself, you can contact us, and we will send you few possibilities after we define your needs.
Decision
When you receive all the offers (we are not satisfied until you are) we start to narrow the search. Maybe 10 or more gulets are interesting to you, but we advise you narrow your search to maxim 4 or 5 gulets so that you have enough time to check them properly when you come to Turkey. For all ships you are interested we send you more technical info, pictures and our view on every gulet for easier decision.
Trip to Turkey
When you have 4 or 5 gulets as your favorites, you should start thinking of a trip to Turkey. We can complete all procedure also without you but we advise you to come and check your investment in person. If you do not wish to deal with boatyards and any procedures we can arrange you 1 week vacations and 1 day tour of your future gulet only.
Turkey is centre of wooden gulets , Construction happens mainly in the boatyards of Bodrum, Bozburun and Marmaris.
You’ll be able to visit several boatyards in these regions to see how they are being built and renovated.
WHY YOU REALY HAVE TO BE CAREFUL IF YOU GO ON SUCH TRIPS BY YOURSELF?
This kind of trips can on the other hand turn into real nightmare if you do not have good broker behind you.
- Good brokers don’t show a lot of gulets to sale, they show only 4 – 5 best most useful to buyers.
- Good brokers are experienced in gulet brokerage, and always have an idea how much is the real cost of gulets.
- Good brokers have close relationships with owners know all about yachts and all info if yachts have been chartered before, feedbacks of clients, comfort, etc.

Brokers are members of Turkish exporter’s union.
If a broker is not registered in this union he is not able to export the gulet out of Turkey.
Trip to Turkey – Procedure
Day 1: Arrival
On arrival we will wait for you at the airport and we will be your host for the time you spend in Turkey. When you come, we will accommodate you to your hotel and leave you to rest for the first day, especially if you arrive late in the afternoon or in the evening.
Day 2: Getting to know Turkey and our company
After you take a rest, you will have a meeting with our CEO Operation Turkey, who will take care of you in your stay in Turkey. You will go through complete info about procedures that have to be made; you will get complete info about our company and together you will make a schedule for your stay in Turkey.
After that, we will show you Turkey, gulets in general, give you all idea about Turkey and how the business is made there.
Days 3 and 4: Checking the gulets
We will show you our partner Boatyards, and we will organize for you all trips to gulets you are interested in. You will meet with the owners and you will be able to make complete tours of that gulets, from cabins, salon, kitchen, engines, materials and everything. We will also show you registration papers of this gulet and warn you if there is something you have to be careful with that gulet.
Day 5: Decision and negotiations
After you decide which gulet you wish to purchase, we visit the owner again together. We carry out all negotiation process for you and agree on a final price.
Day 6: Paper work
After your decision, there is a standard procedure that has to be completed, so you do not have any problems later. You will go through complete procedure with our company, and we can complete everything for you.

We also decide about any needed repairs of gulet, boatyard that will be undertaking the procedure and about our future procedures. We decide which procedure we will undertake for you and which you will do by yourself if you will wish to.
Day 7: Last details
Day 7 is reserved for all details and actions that were not made before. Here we also see if you will have to come to Turkey again, or complete process was completed.
Optional extra services
Defining repairs you need and upgrades you wish to undertake
When you buy yourself a gulet the whole story can be at about 50% only. Before purchase, complete gulet survey is made and usually some repairs have to be done. This can be sometimes very tough experience, because some boatyards promise a lot, for very low costs, but at the end they ask for more money or they do repairs which are not quality enough.
We can do this for you easily. After we define needed repairs or upgrades your gulet needs to receive, we give this gulet to the most appropriate boatyard to repair.
One of the smartest things to do also is to buy older budget type gulet for low price and renovate it to become luxury one.
Surveillance and control over quality and deadline
When your gulet is being renovated or repaired, it is necessary to have somebody there all the time to make surveillance. If you wish to be that person it is great, but if you do not have time to spend few weeks or maybe even months there, we can do this for you.

Step 1: CHAMBER OF SHIPING, GULET SURVEY
When you decide which gulet you will buy we will go to the Chamber of Shipping, where gulet is registered.
The gulet experts will give us the assessment on gulet’s condition and value.
Step 2: AGREEMENTS, BILL OF SALE, NOTARY
Gulet Sale & Purchase Agreement will be signed by both parties’ buyer and seller.
(The bill of sale or sales agreements can depend on the citizenship of buyer. We can either follow the order of buyer citizen, where his government orders agreement procedure are or we can do it by Turkish standards, which have been done generally.
This is all done at Notary. Both parties will go there to let bill of sale and agreements are signed for comlete sale and regitration of the yacht on the name of the buyer.
When the bill of sale and agreements are completed in Turkish language, it will be translated by official translator to English language and signed by notary as a twin to a real contract.
3 pieces of document will be issuded to each companies, buyer, seller and customs.
Step 3: HARBOUR MASTER
We will summit an application to the Harbour Master; regarding the export of gulet to foreign country.
Department of gulets will search the database if the gulet has debt to the harbour master. When the staff receives all the information about the gulet they delete the registration of gulet in Turkey.
The respond from harbour master will give us an order form to deliver the customs all info needed to make an export.
Step 4: CUSTOMS
Customs will request us to clear all these documents:
· A document that includes all info that the company selling the gulet doesn’t have any debt to revenue Office
· Sales & Purchase agreement signed by both parties’ buyer and seller.
· Sales invoice (Bill of state)
· The document of specifications of yacht with all technical details.
· Report of value determination for gulet; how much does it cost.
· The document sent by Harbour Master that gulet has been deleted from Turkish registry and that it doesn’t have any problems for export.
· Transit log, taken by harbour master from which harbour gulet will be exported.
The cost for customs is around 2000 – 2500 € (depending of gulet), which is paid by buyer.
A document will be given to you as a new owner by government of where the gulet will be registered.
Authority brief given by owner to captain to bring gulet from Turkey to another country.
Payment procedure
WHAT IS THE PAYMENT PROCEEDURE LIKE
The total of the amount will be delivered after the sales agreement signed by both parties.
We will request them to transfer the Money into our company account in Turkey. Turkish government doesn’t take tax and VAT if gulet is exported.
After we have received the money, they will receive deduction of account by signature of our company.
